Waste solution flows into
the first bucket of salt solution. Metals will precipitate out as
an insoluble salt sludge. Overflow from the first bucket will go
into the second bucket where the same reaction will take place.
The third bucket catches the overflow from the second bucket and
treats the water again. After the third treatment, the water
is free of heavy metals and can be disposed of down the sewer in
accordance with local regulations.
Add salt to maintain
reaction. If the third bucket has significant sludge, the salt
level in the first two buckets is too low. Add salt immediately.
Scrape out the sludge from
the buckets and place in a sealed container for disposal. Wear
gloves and eye protection.
